The Thailand Tourist Visa is a stamp or document provided by a Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country, allowing entry for tourism or medical purposes. You can also apply online through the
Thailand e-visa system, which some embassies exclusively use, meaning walk-ins are not permitted. Contact the embassy you will be applying from beforehand to learn more.
The Thai Tourist Visa differs from the Visa Exemption stamp, placed in your passport upon arrival in Thailand. Remember that you are not allowed to work in Thailand while holding this visa, as it’s only for tourism purposes.
If you’re from one of the 31 approved countries or regions, you can apply for a Visa on Arrival at immigration checkpoints when entering Thailand for tourism. This visa allows a stay of up to 15 days. To apply, you’ll need a valid passport, proof of onward travel, and the visa fee, which must be paid in cash, in Thai baht, upon arrival.
If you’re from one of 93 approved countries, you can enter Thailand under the Thai visa exemption program for tourism, business, urgent tasks, or short-term work for up to 60 days. This stay may be extended by an additional 30 days, though this decision is at the discretion of the immigration officer processing your application. To stay longer, you’ll need to apply for a different visa type before reaching the 90-day maximum.
